If you believe animals aren't intelligent and cope within their space in an intelligent fashion, with knowledge of their limited time on earth please explain why I see so many stories like this one:
[healthyfoodhouse.com]
'“Abi came to me as an orphan of 5 months old and was quite busted up with cuts and scrapes. And [she] is my only kangaroo who comes up and gives a great big rugby tackle cuddle.”
Kangaroos are known to have long memories and have on occasion been noted to form special relationships with human caregivers, who usually have to have almost daily contact with them.'
I'm not sure about kangaroos. This seems to indicate either something other than intelligence or at most a low level of intelligence. I would think a high level of intelligence would make it easier for acts of affection expressed by kangaroos to occur since they would more readily connect the care from humans to their own well-being and a probable lesser well-being without that help.
