Not sure what this has to do with religion, people die in crushes in theatres, concerts, sporting events, etc. It's an indication of inadequate crowd control.

Read the article fully. They were all jostling and crowding in a frenzy to tread in some "blessed oil" the pastor had poured on to the ground for them.
Don't equate this to big, organised sports events as you know them.

@Petter People dying in crushes happen at all sorts of events, here's people being killed by "blind education" apparently. [bbc.com]

@Druvius That was schoolchildten in Kakamega, near lake Victoria, an area where people panic easily, due to the fear of political gangs. Something sparked their panic.
The event in Tanganyika was people being INVITED to walk in blessed oil by a religious "pastor". They fought to get access to it. There is a difference.
I know both countries intimately.
As an aside, did you know that Kakamega had a gold rush in the early 1930s? My father joined it. Ten years later, he established his own water boring and diamond drilling company.
