U. S. 2020 presidential election may be Socialism vs Fascism.

Edit: trying to point something about the irony of history or something. That, at least in the U.S., there used to be the perception that such a struggle is something that liberal democracy had evolved past.

More like emerging oligarchy and the economically exploited by the oligarchs. Big Pharma, oil and gas. Insurance companies, banks, hedgefund groups, and the military-industrial complex (e.g General Dynamics) are the new oligarchs.

Warren and Bernie are not socialists in the way you allude. You are implying an outdated understanding of the term. Democratic socialism is not the same as what we witnessed and understood in the 60's

Sorry, I think you're projecting your perceptions onto what you purport as an allusion. I was actually thinking of the 30s - 40s ideological struggles in central Europe, but not alluding to anything except generalized notions of ideology. I was trying to point out the hubris of the liberal democratic view that liberal democracy is an evolution past what it paints as failed ideological systems. Apparently I failed miserably, judging by the comments here.

EXCELLENT comparisons...thank you.

I think this election is between 95% of Americans and the 1% richest Americans who donate to Republicans

Unfortunately the 1% have pulled the wool over 33% of the population...and the 33% are what will get dumbass re-elected if we don't get EVERYONE out to vote BLUE that we can.

That 95% includes the 33% religious who will vote for Trump no matters what he does, and the ~7% who benefit along with the 1%.

yes. the religious vote against their own best interest... because... you know.. jesus @yvilletom

@Leetx We earthly types think of earthly best interests. Those religious vote for a different best interest, a Rapture that carry them to their afterlife.

It may also be fair, but that's just as doubtful.

Social democracy is not socialism.

Oversimplified but essentially true. It's also about democracy in the republic as opposed to an oligarchy. And of course it's about criminal activity by politicians, and a hope to clean them out.

Very oversimplified. But I was trying to point something about the irony of history or something. That, at least in the U.S., there used to be the perception that such a struggle is something that liberal democracy had evolved past.

Agreed about the other things.
