I guess a lot of people feel there’s no reason to vote. I have a lot of distrust in government, especially in DC, but I do vote.

Don't forget the 4+million that were illegally removed from the voting roles by predominantly republican administrations

There are a lot of places that make it difficult to vote: exceedingly long lines, an inability to get off work, or finding out you're no longer on the voting rolls. It would be interesting to find out how large those groups are.

,,,it takes 20 minutes/ maybe every other year;
Not a big sacrifice ~ unless it goes away FOREVER.
The League of Women Voters gives you your ballot (just
your zip code needed). The questions;candidates
qualifications; term length; ect.
Thank you.

Try living in one of those underserved communities where it can be an all day affair only to find out that they have removed you from the rolls. For many people it is much harder than others. The reason the voting rights act require preclearence to any change in voting times or locations was the abysmal record those states had in allowing voting. Every state convention I hear about how republican counties are locating most of their polling places in white areas and few in the non white areas.

@glennlab Glenn- do you know I was born in one of the poorest u.s. cities? I keep my fingers on the political pulse
of this and other areas hit with redistricting/gerrymandering
and political curruption & graft.(mayors of 2 home city's
PROSECUTED BY FBI in 3 years)-but again Democracy is the
best vehicle in the lot. Also ,I follow aarp; and women league of voters and know what occurred in Georgia/Alabamma/and Mississippi- PLACES I DON'T LIVE.
I am not going there to protest- but I am LOCALLY VERY active. In 3 years voting in my "adoptive nieghborhood"
I've seen people using walkers to vote- yet not many young
folks ARE visable. These facts( I concied to yours about
voter rolls/ restrictions; historic) are 15 years of erosion the
democratic underpinnings; and the politicization of social institutions. I feel the cuts inflicted on those citizens who struggle against systematic reductions of thier RIGHTS;- not born there ,I from a distance fight here, that a reversal of the barriers isn't needed here also.
Respectfully

It would be interesting to see how many more people voted if there was a "None Of The Above" option.

The people who don't vote are expressing that choice.

@BitFlipper I agree; which is why I disagree with people who insist everyone "must go out and vote" and those who argue that voting should be mandatory.

@Jnei I don't believe people should be forced to vote. But, in the current system, the party that succeeds in delivering The largest sense of hopelessness will always have the advantage. By making voters feel hopeless, they gain The advantage of the non-voters.

,,,I remember previous discussions , and you explained partially your system!!! I ,today see it as a bit more preferably::::
You don't have the Electoral College !!! AND a no
confidence vote means = build a concencous.!!! These 2 points are real hindrance to how a government COULD be
improved. Just on party lines, good laws the people want
are held hostage; no dialogue;stagnation- after a concencous
was reached. I value your new input.

yep, I don't believe the ballot tallying is real. I think there is dishonesty along the ways. But , I vote just incase for the lesser of the two evils.

I agree. It always seems like it’s the lesser of two evils.

It is the only power we have. Can you imagine where we would be if people didn't vote in 2018? The "it doesn't matter who I vote for, they are all the same" excuse is as stupid as anything anyone has ever said in the history of mankind. Without trump we would have a very different Supreme Court. If someone doesn't think that matters, they are really too stupid to live, and that is just a fact.

I want to say three things

  1. I agree that everyone must vote.
  2. Make voting compulsory and the day a national holiday
  3. Tell this to Bernie followers who sat out the 2016 election that got Trump elected
