Steve passed away in 1984 shortly after writing this song. He will be remembered fondly for his great contribution to the music world. Someone should rename the "City of New Orleans" railroad line (if it still exists) after him!

The last time the Cubs made it to the playoffs was in 1989; the last time they made it to the World Series was in 1945. The last time they actually won the World Series was in 1908. So, I guess you missed the point of that posting. I could give a shit about the Cubs or any other baseball team. I was commemorating the irony of Steve using his own song to presage his own death. I doubt you ever heard of Steve Goodman. I am a singer-songwriter and he was one of my biggest influences. Thanks anyway for noticing and responding.
