More people overall, lots of more-vulnerable older people, and in this country at least, a Very weakened/decimated infrastructure to deal with it.

And factors that civilized countries don't have. People can't take a day off when they're sick for fear of being fired. People can't afford to go to a doctor, or fill a prescription. Civilized countries don't have these constraints.
