I work for a hospital for children. I work in the billing office/customer service and have absolutely zero patient contact. My boss called this morning about new Corona Virus protections we are taking. Nothing that really affects me personally, if we have cough, fever, SOB we need to be screened before we go into the office. Changes are made in the hospital that may be inconvenient for families and we need to be aware of because we may get complaints. Hey, we deal with really sick kids, so can't be too careful. So, this corona virus thing is now affecting me. Keep in mind the ancient Chinese curse: May you live in interesting times.

The idea of electronic invoices has its origins in the increasing use of paperless commerce.

The concept of "paperless commerce" in its broadest sense can be defined as business transactions that involve the exchange of data by electronic means. Depending on the nature of the transaction, the paperless trade process may involve several agents, such as insurers, transportation organizations, departments of excise and customs procedures, banks, and financial institutions. But as with any business, problems can arise. To prevent them, you can audit medical bills every year. All that matters is finding a reputable company. In my case, I didn't do it without help [juneauempire.com].

But is anyone sure it cannot be spread by paperwork? I know there are a number of cases across the world where no physical contact can be found......

Computers have minimized the amount of paper that gets handled. Yes, we have some stuff mailed in from patient's families, but most of it is fax, email or via our online portal. In the hospital patient care area again there is not a great deal of paper handled. We use EMR and electronic billing. What I wouldn't want to do right now is handling insurance cards or cash. When I see insurance cards they have been scanned already, and once a year or less we get a family that wants to pay cash, and I'm not the one that handles that.

Brief segue: my fingerprints are on file with the FBI because of the kinds of commercial data I used to work with. The law required it. But I never touched any paper - another antiquated law.
