The corona virus is a terrible thing to be sure, people are dying, people are missing work, not able to pay bills, there's a lot of misery and fear around the world due to it, etc.

That being acknowledged, one most remember that out of past tragedies some good came later on. Even the legendary Black Death left a silver lining in it's wake, read here:

Now our society and culture will almost certainly survive corona, as it survived the spanish flu of 1918, so perhaps it's not too early to speculate on what positive aftereffects could happen in the wake of the cornoa pandemic, as it has been declared officially, and what can be done to maximize them.

What postiive aftereffects of corona can you reasonably imagine and what can we do now to bring them into being?

First I hope this reminds people to listen to experts and scientists. It's amazing how when something like corona happens people instantly horde up of masks and hand sanitizers, yet for decades scientists have been ignored when they warn of human influenced climate change.

I also hope this results in greater international funding for and cooperation among nations when it comes to pre emptive searched for new viral trends and strains.

I saw religious fanatics in iran licking temple gates to show that their allah is stronger than any disease.

Could corona result in a hard hit to the religious fanatic population?

Some in our society will learn a lesson but it will probably be short term and limited. A major lesson is that economics is not the center of our lives. Humans have gotten along for millennia without modern economics. The inflated and misguided economic system we have now will, in the end, destroy us. There has to be major changes in the way people view LIFE (writ large) or else we will be going through more and more pandemics, loss of environmental quality, wars and things that can and do kill us.
Many, in our society will continue to cling to the ancient myths, lies and superstitions. Perhaps and hopefully the saner members can overwhelm the less rational ones and our species can continue.

I am hoping that we learn how to better manage outbreaks from this: earlier, more numerous tests, less mixing of people spreading the disease early, less panic buying... in case another new pathogen emerges that is a lot more dangerous. Obstinance and selfishness pretty well nixed a productive response to COVID-19. We are lucky, despite its being highly transmissable, that this is not a hot killer more akin to ebola.

One thing that is certain, is that the stock market will bounce back at the end. The loss of wealth at this time is only really a loss of confidence, and therefore short term, a panic, and panic can not last for ever.
