Why grandma's soap kills viruses.
Really, I don't think that every soap made home kill virus. I inquired from lots of websites and there were written that hand-sanitizers need to contain at least 65-95% alcohol, and to be in contact with your skin for at least 60 seconds to reliably inactivate the coronavirus. And actually drinking alcohol is not strong enough, some ethanol and very high percentage alcohols actually do not work. My grandmother is doing homemade soap and she found out lots of recipes from internet but she isn't sure that this soap kills virus, anyway, precisely it is good for something else. Oh, I forgot to inform you, is a page [aussiecandlesupplies.com.au] where you can find different products such as oils, candles or soaps which can be useful for killing viruses.
Soap, used for hand washing, will kill almost any virus, if the hands are washed, thoroughly, for at least 20 seconds.
I have made soap before, it is a fascinating process. You melt a variety of fats together, each fat has certain properties when mixed with lye, such a creaminess, soapiness, harness, check it out here: [soapcalc.net] then you mix liquid (usually water) and lye and let it cool. When the lye and the fats are the same temperature you mix them together and stir, stir, stir, and stir more. I use a stick blender. The lye mixed with fats causes a process called saponification. When it starts to look/feel like pudding you can put it in mold, cover it with waxed paper and then put it in a lined box and let it age for several days. Then you can unmold it, cut into bars if you need to, and then let it age another few weeks. I have used almost exclusively my own homemade soap for about 5 years, mostly because I have enough to last another 5 to 20 years.
The original soap was to use dripping and boil it with water and ash, from particulat plants that were rich in potassium.
Very interesting, I had no idea that was the effect. Looks like I’ll have to start using soap on my face, rather than cleansing with fatty moisturiser, thanks for the tip
It is the act of cleansing, not whatever soap you use. Duuuuh
Yeah. But it shows that there's been no improvement on virus control since Grandma's childhood!!
Soaps have gained smells and colours, but they're still the same stuff, despite what the marketing boys tell us.
