So first they shut down the country borders and now they're shutting down the state borders while giving police the powers to enforce it. It may be for the best but I'm starting to feel really claustrophobic at having someone say where and when I can't travel. Is this what it feels like to live in a totalitarian regime? I'm not liking it. Asked to stay, I'll stay, but you start locking the door and I'm looking for the exit. For the greater good or not. I'll comply, but....

They are trying to keep us alive, look at Italy and what happened when people ignored quarantine

Yes, I get that and that's why I comply. It doesn't make it feel any better about having your freedoms restricted

I don’t mind staying home if it’s really necessary—I wasn’t going anywhere much anyway.

I’m not sure but what this thing is overblown though. People are getting well in droves.

Really, "getting well in droves"....where, exactly?

@AnneWimsey Over 70,000 who were hospitalized in China are well. Most who had the virus had only minor symptoms and were never hospitalized.

[cnn.com]

@WilliamFleming well, just peachy except for the ummmmm, how many Reported DEAD? And, ummmm. Italy?

@AnneWimsey 150,000 people die every day, and most are elderly. This Coronavirus is a drop in the bucket. Most of those who die would die from flu or something else before long.

All of us old folks are short-timers.

@WilliamFleming latest statistics say 30-50 year olds are dying in bigger numbers.

@AnneWimsey I haven’t seen that. Do you have a link?

@WilliamFleming CDC stats

@AnneWimsey

“Of the 44 people whose deaths were recorded in the report, 15 were age 85 or older and 20 were between the ages of 65 to 84. There were nine deaths among adults age 20 to 64, the report said.”

[nytimes.com]

Maybe 30-50 year olds are dying at a faster rate than was thought before or they are dying at a faster rate than before, but they still have an excellent chance of survival.

Everyone dies at some point—to hell with it. I will continue staying home but I refuse to worry or be afraid.

To a degree I fail to see the point of shutting state borders after it has arrived. Getting people to stay home and self isolate yes. But the only way that people from out of state could be any more infectious or dangerous than natives, is if you were using a very good testing system, and tracking individual carriers, and that you are not doing, It smacks of xenophobia and political posturing to me.

Yes, but you are an intelligent person, and we all know how rare that is...Spring Break in Fort Lauderdzle, anyone? Rules are always set for the Lowest Common Denominator!
