Ive seen a bunch of those memes lately about how antisocial people are so ready for this social distancing situation but i feel like 90% of those people are going to regret their words. Personally, as a hermit im loving it. I went to Target a little earlier today to get a few things and I was thrilled that only a handful of people were there. On my drive home I started hypothesising; if this virus had the death toll of the spanish flu or the black plague what would the world be like? Historically speaking we are completely on track for this virus to occur but history doesnt tell us how affected we will be...or does it "bum bum bum"
Spanish flu death toll 50-100 million world wide
Population 1918: 1.8 billion
Population today: 7.8 billion
If we assume that the infection rate is relatively similar between the two (some say it is, some say its not) then were looking at approximately 350-700 million deaths. (Dont judge my math if im wrong)
Relatively speaking thats not a huge death toll and the spanish flu had ww1 on its side.
In comparison the black plague killed approximately 100 million but the population was only 475 million to begin with so obviosly that would have been much more devistating population wise but then the primary difference between 14th c. And now is that we wash regularly. I mean there are other factors but thats literally the biggest one that most people don't know.
All numbers included in this are approximate and im terrible at math so forgive me if my math is way off.
