I think that humans evolved, with the instinct to colonise, so we can one day, leave this world to terraform other planets. To bring life to other planets, and perpetuate life throughout the universe.

We wouldn't have a natural "instinct" to go to another un-natural planet. Who or what gave us that "instinct"?

I suspect that isn’t an evolutionary imperative!

It seems inevitable. We've little capability at present, but we're already talking about colonies on Mars!
We'd get bored staying put on boring old Earth once we have the knowledge and technology to explore.
