It's God's fault...wait, there is no God. Oops, sorry.

When overpopulated animal species runs rampant these things happen.

Why does there always have to be some conspiracy attached to everything??? Want a conspiracy, try nature is conspiring to remove species that don't fit in or have put too much of a strain on her resource base.

When compared to the 7.8 billion people on the planet the number of deaths attributed to the corona virus (currently 112,000) are statistically insignificant. Even if the death toll were a hundred times higher it would not have an impact on the overall world population.

But going unchecked it would. In 1918 the flu took a much larger % of the population and given the ongoing war even more were killed. Did we learn anything??

Medical science and technology has advanced vastly since 1918. I don't see Covid 19 going unchecked (since most every country in the world is fighting to control it) and work is already underway to find treatments and a vaccine.

More importantly , will we learn from THIS pandemic and be better prepared for the next one. There are viruses in the world that have a 50% or higher fatality rate but simply aren't very contagious (marburg virus and ebola for example). It may be better that we learn a lesson from this virus with a 3% fatality rate rather than something far worse.

I think it's just a thing that happens in the biological world. Why do we have to always assign intention to things that happen in nature (and society)? Its frustrating and gets in the way of understanding complicated realities.

Even if it were man-made, humans are a part of nature, so yes, it is nature culling the human race. Not in a deliberate way though. Things are just unfolding as they have to. It’s all okay.

There is a common fallacy which the human mind is very prone to, of seeing an intelligent agent and intention behind every action. Because we are social animals and tend to think in social terms, and we attempt to interpret our fellow humans by trying to understand their motivations.

Unfortunately, since that habit generally works well with humans and other animals in our social sphere, we naturally try to extend the practice to include as many other things as we can, including unfortunately many things which are not in fact animated by intent, both single objects, and abstractions like nature. And this creates the 'thinking agent' fallacy, which is at base of most religions especially Animism, where physical objects are anthropomorphized. It is something which is even today an easy mistake to fall into, and it is needful to make great efforts to avoid it.

I am very simple: I am easily amused by false dichotomies.

(P.S. I like your analysis.)

Neither...see post below.

Neither. It is just plain old-fashioned evolution at work.
