In my opinion South Africa cannot afford the tragedies. Firstly SA does not have sufficient testing capacity, secondly not enough beds for emergencies and thirdly not enough respiratory apparatus, so lockdown forces people to isolate to contain the virus so that the country could afford to treat fewer cases that require emergencies. We still have testing kits on order.

@gigihein it seems they're the one's flitting around the world more than others. From the time they land, they infect others without even knowing they themselves have the virus. From the airport to their home, at work, the malls etc SA has managed to trace people who came into contact with 10 of those who came back from Italy, and also from China and the USA and elsewhere. One of the guys who travelled from Los Angeles to South Africa - landed Johannesburg, then to Cape Town tested positive too.

@gigihein things won't really turn to immediate normality when lockdown ends, end of April. Everyone will be aware (suspicious) of everyone else's status (whether infected). I also worry because my younger son is in university. They closed the university from beginning of March already when our first few cases surfaced. My worry is when he goes back and they sit in close proximity with other students that could be infected. Our stats will definitely increase by end August as per the link at bottom of my post. The virus doesn't have legs and needs humans to spread it. Lockdown has its benefits but the spread won't be over for the next 18 months once lockdown rules are relaxed. We closed a giant food store and pharmacy last week because one of the worker's at the pharmacy tested positive and the food store was in the same mall next to the pharmacy. Its a vicious circle. We don't have the capacity currently to test more than expected but testing continues and more testing kits to come in. I have to go to a pharmacy this morning. I know there's queues with 2m distancing. I will definitely use a mask. I've already ordered my stuff yesterday, so will collect and in and out as fast as I can. I've made my own masks from t-shirts my younger son hardly wear and got a box from a hardware store way back in February already. ...so most of us have been extra cautious. Those blue imported masks from China is absolute crap. No wonder medical professionals die using those masks. I am going to wear goggles too because that §#! * (virus) gets into the eyes too, into the nasal passage and into your system.
