History, literature, environmental education, geography an amazing boat and lots of links all rolled into one. This story originally was told in a Smithsonian article (https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/ship-sent-john-steinbeck-epic-ocean-voyage-may-ride-again-180972847/ ). It is an amazing story and now there are some amazing videos which link John Steinbeck ("The Log of the Sea of Cortez" ), Ed Ricketts (star of one of my favorite movies “Cannery Row” ). It’s a must see for all interested in boats and boat building. Also, this town Port Townsend is another iconic place in my state in my area. It is famous for its dedication to wooden boats and their wooden boat festival is famous.

I once took a, learn to sail, course and got bitten by the bug. Luckily, a scary event cured me. However, I still wanted to be on the water and a former partner got us involved with kayaking and I ended up building a marine plywood, double kayak from a company (Pigmy - [pygmyboats.com] - for all the fisherpeople watch the short video) from Pt. Townsend, WA (a picture is on top of my little Prius on my profile page).

Unfortunately, the modern generation does not appreciate what nature gives us. The beauty of nature is incomparable to anything created by man. Recently I proposed to my son that we go on a boat trip together. He refused for a long time, but I was very persistent. We went to the boat in the morning and saw that the bimini top was pretty dirty. Thanks to the information here [thehobbykraze.com] we found an effective way to clean it. I really enjoyed the trip with my son, and I hope he did too.

All the boat videos are looking so epic? Or it's just me, who loves them very much. I remember when I traveled to Gdansk, Poland, there were some boats in pirate style, which were looking pretty awesome. When I am home in the US, I always go for a boat rental Miami, during the vacations with my family. It's much better than anything else, and the emotions are on another level, we also visited a few islands and planning to go the next month again.

The continuing reconstruction of this boat can be found on Youtube. This city on our peninsula is the center for wooden boats. I have a double, wooded kayak I build from a kit produced by a company in Pt. Townsend (Pygmy Kayak).

I have a brother that owned a 36' power boat. He spent a lot of time on that boat but discovered it was cheaper and easier to rent a boat than to keep one and pay all the fees/licensing and so on.

Hmmmm

Holy crap! I had just gotten into a conversation from a person who lives in Port Townsend. I wanted to mention this boat and the reconstruction but forgot the name. Thanks for the timely comment.

Enjoyed the Port Townsend wooden boat video. Looks like a great time!

I sent a lot but really enjoyed all the links. It's a good distraction from the usual posts. Pt. Townsend is a special place. There is an old military base there (now an event center). It is Ft. Worden where the film "Officer and a Gentleman" was filmed. [fortworden.org]

I thought more would be interested in this boat and the history. Only yourself and one other. Too much stuff about politics and the virus. Frustrating.

@JackPedigo I think everyone is just hyper focused on the virus and trump right now. It has everyone upset and scared so that’s all they really want to talk about.

@JackPedigo How interesting that the movie officer and a gentleman were filmed at that base. I absolutely love boats and ships. My oldest son was in the Navy and was on a destroyer while he was serving. I took a trip out to San Diego when he was in the Navy and he gave me a tour of his ship. It was very fascinating. I also dated a man that had a 50 foot fishing boat that we used to take people out on charters to go fishing. I enjoy being on the water and boats in general. your post was interesting to me.😉

@Redheadedgammy Thank you. There used to be a tradition in Seattle during it's Seafair festival that the navy would come with some ships (once a sub) and people could go aboard. The USS Missouri was mothballed across the sound in Bremerton and before it went back to Hawaii it came for tours during the festival and I got to go on board. Is there much change to get on the water where you live? Here, it;s easy because we're surrounded by it lol

@JackPedigo I could get to the water here, but the Gulf is so dirty with oil and other who knows what in it that I don’t go to the beach anymore here in Texas. I lived for a couple of years in Palacios Texas, which is where all the shrimpers work with their shrimp boats. It’s a little better there, but then who knows. I haven’t been there since I left in 2004, so it could be as bad as the Gulf by now. I would love to live closer to the water as I grew up in Northern California, and was at the beach just about every weekend.

@Redheadedgammy Did you see my uncommon word? It's a little remedy for all the tension these days.

@JackPedigo Is it in another post?

@Redheadedgammy Yes, it's under uncommon words. This one was a mystery to me but then I found a connection I thought funny.

@Redheadedgammy Sorry, sometimes I'm a little slow but you comment on dirty water reminded me of growing up in Dallass. My mother was a good swimmer and during the summer we often went to one of several lakes to picnic and swim. The water was always muddy and cloudy. Much later I had a partner whose family had a vacation house on a lake in northern Michigan near Traverse City. That water was so clear one could go out a long way as still see little fishes nibbling at one's toes. I remarked on this and she said it's because it's a natural lake. I later discovered all the lakes in Texass are human made (except Texoma).
