RACISM & MISOGYNY
Maybe we shouldn't be ignoring the racism and sexism on this site. Still not very prevalent but there nonetheless. Should we block them en masse or not? Confrontation seems to just feed them. I'm becoming alarmed enough to want to do something about it:

I've always been of the mind that, unless it turns into a name calling debate, it's always good to take apart the racist or misogynistic perspective. It not only demonstrates publicly that the person is wrong, but it give others the ability to use your arguments and resources if and when they make the point elsewhere.

[“liberal democracy,” the system guaranteeing a wide range of individual rights as well as elected governments, seems to be splitting apart] - nope, that is not what "liberal democracy" is. Democracy tends to infringe upon individual rights.
[where populist leaders take take advantage of anger and resentment to damage institutions and civil liberties, and even wind up establishing outright dictatorships] - description of the current far and "liberal" left, not just right.
I think that is enough to realize this is not going anywhere. I'll finish reading when I muster the patience to do so.
But my general opinion is: talk to everyone, block none. Watch Accidental Courtesy to have an idea about how left and right are similar in their irrationality.

Although it is a PITA, I think you need to confront the offenders, we all do. Explain why that is racist/sexist. Too often it continues to happen because no one mentions it. They take the path of least resistance. I know, it is easier to let it slide or block, but if the offender is told often enough that they are offensive, hopefully they will hear it and make changes. And the cool thing is how others on the site will back you up. I love the support. Of course the offender is off in his own little worlds, but one can hope a little crack will be made.

@kmdskit3 I skimmed it. It has those components of sanity vs information. However, now that I've read it more in depth, we need to work to resolve the problems we have, to unify, or we're going to go down in the ash heap of history. However, as we're messing up the planet and the climate, it might not matter. Jeebus.
