Take a look at what happened to Hokkaido.

I live on a small island dependent on tourism. We closed down right off, since we have a very small hospital, not many ICU beds or ventilators. So, we've been able to contain the virus to only 21 confirmed cases, with only one still active isolated in the hospital.
It's been 14 days since we've had any new cases. All but one of the confirmed cases we've had have been travel related, so we are not eager to start up tourism again anytime soon. But we will likely open up locally two weeks from now, barring any new cases.
This is why everyone is on board to keep up the social distancing happily, because if we are successful in squashing the virus locally, we can start enjoying the beach, restaurants, music, small social gatherings, etc. This is good incentive to keep our new cases to zero!
