Are we the baddies?

America has an amazing history. Its history of adventure, exploration, art/literature, earth shaking wars, and technology from airplanes to nuclear weapons which have changed humanity forever. We became an empire which with less than 8% of the worlds population controlled more than 50% of its resources.

When I was growing up, the Soviet Union was "The Evil Empire". Have we taken their place? We have tens of millions of amazing people in the United States, who are going to continue to add to the health and happiness of the other 8 billions people on the planet. But are we now the bad guys? When previous empires have crashed, perhaps flitting through a totalitarian phase at the end, do you think all of the citizens . . . The workers and families - did they all suddenly become evil when their government turned the bend? Or were they just the same plain old people they always were, they just let things go to hell?

Are we the baddies now? What is history going to show?

Ha! Quite true! Hard to have an objective measure of asshole-dom. Maybe simply by the number of stories showing you as the asshole? 15 stories call you an asshole, but 50 stories say I'm the asshole? Ding ding ding - I win!! 🙂

@Observer-Effect there's a group on reddit called "Am I the asshole?" If you want to see how truly clueless people are about thier asshole ratio.

Yes we're 'baddies,' but with redeeming characteristics.
We'll know we've become truly psychopathically dangerous when they put a muzzle on the press, particularly the internet. That's the point of no return: press censorship.

Yep, and if that POS can pull it off he will. As this adolescent temper-tweet this morning shows:

Yes we are, and have been since the 50's. Ask Central and South Americans how we've treated their Countries..or Iran, or Viet Nam, Cambodia, Laos, or the Palestinians, Iraqis, Afghanis.How about Yemenis, Hondurans or Vezualians as of late..hell go to Any A.A community in this country and ask them..300 years oppression will tell you a lot about this country.

We’ve always been baddies, colonizing a land through the genocide of the native population and creating wealth on the backs of slaves. Is this the “amazing history” of which you speak?

@powder When was that, exactly?

@powder The Constitution has noble concepts, but in reality it was written to establish rights of property owners. Whoever has emulated it likely has established rights for certain classes and has created lesser classes to be exploited.

@powder

During that time, America was very innovative and did some good things. it also because the only country to ever use nuclear weapons in war.
