Ronald Reagan once said California's Orange County is a place "where good Republicans go to die." One 1970s issue of the satirical comic book Mad Magazine described a unique raptor species, the Orange County Hawk, whose right wing was weirdly overdeveloped, while its left wing was so atrophied that the bird's flight path was always a series of tight curlicues. The latest manifestation of Orange County's unfortunate politics is that its people cannot be trusted to socially distance at the beach. Taking their cues from the tRump (rather than medical professionals), they congregate in large groups without facial coverings. Seeing this irresponsible behavior, the Governor (someone who gets science) announced that all California beaches would be closed as of Friday, May 1. But residents of other coastal communities complained. Why should they be penalized when they were acting responsibly? Indeed. The Governor agreed, and modified the beach closure order to apply only to Orange County. Now that's what I call enlightened governance! Bravo Governor Newsom! In protecting the citizens of Orange County from themselves, you are protecting the rest if the State, and the country, from Orange County. Thank you!
