I worked at home from 1995 to 2018. Maybe it was more harmful than I thought.

For most of civilization, working from home was the absolute norm, nobody was more than walking distance away. The entire family worked as an economic unit for suvival. It is our "commuter society" that is not only Abnormal, but contributes Hugely to pollution. Not only in the use of fossil fuels to commute, but the fact that commuter households need 2 cars. Learn some history

That's a good point! The smog-free way our cities look right now is testament to that in addition to the minimal use of fossil fuels.

And his basis for this is ... ?

I've worked from home for more than 30 years, and I found only benefits to it. Not only was I more productive without all the wasted time socializing while waiting for people to be available, but I saved 10+ hours a week of commute time. Granted, I would go to the office or client locations for meetings, and it was a nice break, but it surely wasn't something I wanted to do every day. In fact, my employer benefited over the years in that I was able to do certain critical work from home while out with two bouts of pneumonia and a couple of surgeries, which I wouldn't have been able to do if I'd had to go into the office. It was definitely a win/win situation.

Not buying it. I have known people who work from home for years and love it. Most stress in day to day life comes from other folks. It is amazing the more people, sometimes even family members, you avoid on a daily basis, how much less stress you feel. You can really see and feel this at this time in our country. Hanging out in an office or shop with a bunch of people you don't really care for and even one or two you just don't like is doing nothing for you socially. It isn't for everyone as some people really need that contact everyday, but I don't think it will be detrimental to our society.
