During this pandemic I have found myself watching more tv at night. I live alone. When shows like Seinfeld, MASH, and Cheers were on network tv I watched and enjoyed them, but just can't watch them again. So I gave in and got Netflix and HULU. I am glad I did. I discovered some great British shows. Old, but new to me. Prime Suspect with Helen Mirren, DCI Banks, Line of Duty, and Doc Martin are shows I really enjoy. Through Doc Martin and DCI Banks I have fallen in love with Caroline Catz.
Also have watched Shetland on PBS. I liked the show, although I had to turn on the closed caption because their Scottish accent was difficult for me to understand.
You might wanna give Acorn a chance. It has quite a few quality shows from Britain, Australia and New Zealand with optional subtitles so you don't get lost in the dialect or slang. Quite a few shows with a Doc Martin look and feel as well as a bunch of Martin Clunes comedies and crime dramas. Seeing as how there isn't any baseball to watch, there are worse things to watch until the season begins.
Thanks I have been looking at Acorn.
It is amazing how many movies and tv shows are out there to find and watch!
YouTube has so many interesting videos some days you can get lost on so many different subjects!!!
Luckily for me (or was lucky) in that our library has over 6,000 videos and that doesn't include the educational videos. I discovered "Shetland" and loved it. Like you needed the subtitles. This created a conversation between myself and some others and I discovered an English (American) to Scottish dictionary. [stooryduster.co.uk]
About the only thing I watched on TV was sports and we were dissatisfied with the service and the cost so the pandemic triggered us to get rid of our broadcast receiver.
Have you seen the earlier British version of Coupling? They tried to do an American remake but it failed. The British show is hilarious.
No I have not. I'll look for it.
