BET founder calls for $14T in reparations for slavery. Is it a good or bad idea? Why or why not?

Also, this is something I can't believe from the article "less than half of those polled -- said the government should issue an official apology for slavery." Honestly, and here I'm admitting my embarrassing ignorance of the issue, is it really true this hasn't been done yet? I can't even believe that would be true. That is a horrible reality. And then, well this is just, something that has to be righted. I have to add this, the official government apology, is not something that should come from Trump.

My white girl take is that something should be done. Our country was literally built and sustained by industrialized mass slavery for most of its history and the inequality that exists today because of it is unacceptable.

I don't know the details of his proposal but it seems like a one time cash payout to people alive right now wouldn't cut it...

It would have to be ongoing include some sort of "affirmative action on steroids" to equalize the legal and educational systems and stuff like that.

I agree a one time cash payout doesn't seem enough. A cash payout would be appropriate with other aspects in place. I think the biggest thing would be more like a strengthened social service and people should be prioritized based on need. Those in the areas with least wealth.
