My town in Wisconsin (92% of the population are white people), Confederate flags, and racism. Lived here since age 11. I'm moving. Here are all the times I've seen Confederate flags and racism.

  1. There's a street in my town that is called "the strip." On the weekend, many people cruise the strip with their big monster trucks that have Confederate flags attached to them.

  2. A block away from my mom's house, I was on a walk and went past this house that had the garage open. Inside, I saw two huge confederate flags.

  3. Saw a confederate flag in someone's window going down a street in my town.

  4. Visited a friend's house and their neighbors pulled up in a huge monster truck with a Confederate flag attached to it. On the dashboard, there was a sticker that said "Don't hate the pride."

  5. Saw a guy walking down the street with a Confederate flag hat.

  6. My sister's ex bf parent's house had a Confederate flag in their house.

Racism/discrimination/racial profiling

  1. An old friend of mine who is black told me that he would get stopped by the police every time he walked at night. He was simply just walking. I have also walked here a night and have walked past many cops. They never stopped me.

  2. My neighbor growing up was racist and told me that he didn't want a black president when Obama was running.

  3. Friend at my old job was walking into work and a car rolled down their window and yelled the N word at her.

  4. The KKK visited my town in 1992.

  5. A classmate of mine at college, who was the only black person in my class, was bullied and picked on often.

  6. In the past month, I have met two more racist people through a friend.

  7. Donald Trump was here when he was running for president and 98% of the people who attended were white people.

These are just a few examples of what I have personally seen here in all my years of living here. I have heard other stories from other people too. These, sadly, are just a few examples. I do wish this town was more diverse. But the main part that is awful is all the racism here. It's coming out even more now. I talked to a friend, who lives in Rockford, Illinois and he said that there's BLM stuff around the whole town. Here there is nothing.

I am going to be so much happier when I move in a few years. Wisconsin also isn't one of the Confederate states, which makes no sense why there's so many Confederate flags here. If that doesn't scream pure racism and/or ignorance, I don't know what does.

Your town sounds like some we had in South SAfrica. ...still have. "They" still only live in those areas now.
Sometimes I wonder what they're up to ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ™
They tried some ยง#! * maybe ten years ago but was caught and a few buildings where they kept arms were seized. I still wonder๐Ÿ™.
