The song was written by James Horner, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, and produced by Peter Asher and Steve Tyrell.

In the main body of the film "An American Tail", the song was performed by Phillip Glasser and Betsy Cathcart in the characters of the anthropomorphic mice Fievel and Tanya Mousekewitz. The song's guitar solo is played by Steve Lukather, famed guitarist for the rock band Toto.

Well there you go, yes I tried the movie version, but these guys are much more polished πŸ™‚ I think the male singing in the movie was actually a young boy, by the sound of his voice.
