I'm having a hard time. At first I loved this site, but after a while I found that there are a lot of people who love to take kindness as a selfish, unreasonable act. It's affected me badly. I don't understand it. I'm forever positive, but the negativity I've found is disheartening. And as you may have guessed, it's just a few people and maybe I should ignore it. I've tried, but it seems like everytime I post there is one completely unreasonable person that tries to change the positive nature of the post to something bad. It's hurtful. There's no reason for it other than pure ego and inferiority complexes. They cut down a perfectly wonderful subject because they are unfullfilled themselves. I recognize this. But the fact of it makes me think that maybe this is not my forum afterall. Or maybe I should just be more aggressive about reporting people. I've mostly had a great experience here, but lately I've really been disillusioned by the lack of open mindedness and compassion. Don't take it personally. I'm just very disappointed. I completely understand free speach, but that speach tells me the kind of folks I'm dealing with. And this does not reflect on 80% of you. But the other 20% are a problem for me. They have the right to their opinion, but does it have to be in my face every frickin' time?? Maybe I'm completely wrong, but I don't think so.
Wow, this is disheartening to hear. I just joined and hope I don't come to the same conclusion.
the site is growing rapidly. and the door is wide open. Overall I like it here or would not be here. SOmetimes you will either have to argue or ignore. I choose to block/ignore. I think it can happen anywhere. SOme of the issues inherent in atheism/agnosticism are weighted with negative past experience
There are all kinds of people out there, as you have found out. The key to living a pleasant life, I think, is to intentionally associate with compatible companions. Avoid the naysayers and those who seem to have a built-in mean streak. They are out there; you just can’t let them take control of you.
