Regarding my last post about how I wasn’t raised with religion being pushed on me by my parents... I still had a VERY rough childhood for different reasons. I just was thinking about the movie “Jesus Camp” recently, which I had to watch in my sociology class in college... and also reading some of the members’ bio’s on here lead me to make that post. I also get recommended videos that come up on my YouTube account involving religion and what not.

And yeah, I’m extremely saddened by it. But I’m ALSO irritated and angry too, which I failed to mention in that post.

One of the reasons why I am on this site is because I live in town with around 40 churches and a huge Jehovah Witnesses congregation. Religion is everywhere here. It makes me feel good and welcoming to connect with like-minded people in this context.

Where I live the christain cult sects are pretty even here. However J witts building is up the street from me and I 'm a little surprised that I don't have one knocking on my door every other day. Earlier in life I considered trying that sect, but changed my mind. I thought it would be more trouble than it's worth.

We have everything here as well which shows great diversity and yet great oppression, and it's been more vocal this past decade or so. Or at least that's when I started feeling it a lot more, so this has been a great outlet for me as well. I hadn't been looking for it, and stumbled upon the site by accident, but it makes me feel good, too. I'm glad we have each other. 🙂

Here and on Facebook for the first time in my life I feel validated. In the sense that there is a world full of people who in many ways feel the same as I do about religion, politics, life and love. Moving around a lot growing up gave me a wide open view on many subjects. Once I settled down near family and in a conservative area, I found that few of my friends and family shared my thoughts or views. So I always kind of felt like an outsider. I seldom talked about my opinions or religious views for fear of losing the few people I considered friends.
Now, I express myself freely online. Those who disagree can certainly do the same and I will enter into discourse when the other party actually can present factual and verifiable references to their position. And I am quite willing to agree to disagree if we both hold strong positions while still remaining friends.
So, I am glad you have found this outlet as well and hope we here give you a feeling of community lacking in your physical space. Take care 🤗
