This. U.S. democracy is in some deep shit. I blame religion. ....not because it is automatically partisan, but because it destroys people's critical thinking skills and makes them more susceptible to political bad actors.

Religion decrees that everyone elses thoughts or ideas can be critiqued from a single other persons perspective. It negates alternative perspectives based on the dillusion of a "Christian" perspective, decide any alternative is invalid and immoral and therefore wrong. So basically gives christian the right to be bigoted against anyone different. This in turn justifies the silly things in many subcultures, like "cut your damn hair" or "wear a shorter skirt or your asking for trouble" and "people who go to college are trying harder in life"...etc.

While over all this is a sort of depressing outlook that Oliver presents is does give me a talking point with the few republicans I come in contact with that keep touting their patriotism, rah rah the red white and blue crap.
trump lost the peoples' vote, the majority want R v Wade and the ACA. That minority control of the majority is absolutely against the American ideal they keep wrapping themselves in.

She's worse than Antonin Scalia. He was at least not bat shit crazy.

Bad, yes. More to the point, regardless of her qualifications, she will produce a six to three conservative/liberal imbalance on the court. Basically there are no moderates left and the court is even further out of touch with general American social views, which are much more centrist when political rhetoric is removed from the picture.
