Fortunately for years I've worn my hair short -- not quite shaved, but close (it sort of matches my thin hair these days.Lol). When my father died a few years ago I inherited my mother's old good clippers (she'd been passed a while ago too).
I set them on 1/4 inch and just go all over (partially by feel Ha, ha.).
I have to admit, having a good set of clippers makes a difference -- I haven't lost any ears yet.
Your hair looks better than mine but that could have to do with other factors than just a better haircut.

Yeah, I'm doing the home haircuts, too. I think I'm getting the hang of it. A lady friend recently told me that my hair looked nice.
