The Post:

In light of our current global situation--of which I spoke in my last post--the most enticing rabbit hole for me involves the rush to transhumanism, the mission de jour of Silicon Valley
that wants to conquer not only the physical world, but the world of consciousness as well. Here's where we have a problem.

AI will never achieve any sort of consciousness. It will only function as a controlling agent, and probably a very malign agent. If you look at cultural predictors such as the film "Minority Report," and the excellent German tv series "You Are Wanted," it's apparent that technology without consciousness is, in essence, the equivalent of a failed state. I have a number of e-books on hold from my library: Weapons of Math Destruction, Superintelligence, Homo Deus, and Machines of Loving Grace. More than a few creditable experts believe that the only realistic weapon against transhumanism is consciousness, uniting with the divine organizing presence. I encourage inquiring minds to do their own research.

My Response:
I would beg to disagree on that point. First, you assert that AI will never be conscious. Science has already reverse engineered the brains of some of the smaller creatures on the planet, and we do not even have quantum computing in gear yet.
. You also seem to be asserting that AI is a ticket to destruction.
. I would assert that, quite the contrary, HUMANS are the ticket to destruction, they have been at it for well over 7,000 years, and what have they not yet fucked up, excluding wiping themselves off the planet, which is guaranteed to happen, with very near 100% certainty, simply discovered, when you look at the statistics and nuclear events that have already occurred. Mankind NEEDS an extreme paradigm shift if it is to survive, and, AI, in a millisecond, can figure it out that nuclear war is not a good option, whereas mankind, after nearly a hundred years since these weapons were invented, still thinks it is!
. The problem with humans is that they think far to emotionally, they react with anger, react due to pride, due to ego, and most of the leaders in office are nothing but narcissistic egotists. AI does not have all that baggage to deal with. I would contend that, if humans were exposed to logical thinking more directly, as transhumanism intends to achieve, it would increase their chances of surviving by a huge margin. It would likely allow them to "know themselves" better, and become better as a result.
. Given a century or so from the time AI really takes hold, it could also provide something that the gods have often promised, failed to deliver on, failed to prove, failed in every way possible to provide . . . Because all these "gods" are nothing more than the product of the imagination of humans. Gods will not deliver what AI will be able to deliver itself. Excepting the age limit of the universe . . . . Immortality.
. No wonder those who believe in the human-created deities have a problem with AI . . . . It would replace the dictator in the sky with something that is actually logical and real, that delivers something other than empty promises.

I have noticed though that we place our own flaws into our creations (eg gods). What causes you to believe that we won't do exactly the same thing with AI especially as it would be us that wrote the program and set the program priorities?

First, AI is not "programmed" in the sense that a person writes the code that determines its behavior, and I am referring actually to a part of AI called "Deep Learning". AI learns via statistical analysis of data. That said, there are ways that data can be biased, but advanced computer systems, and we are not even talking about quantum computers yet, have the capability to examine an absolutely huge amount of data, which improves the analysis on any work it is doing. However, I am not talking about just today's technology. Quantum computers are going to rock this world in ways that most people cannot imagine.

@Archeus_Lore I don't know enough about AIs to dispute your logic. I have seen enough of our capacity to fuck anything to doubt the possibility of our creating something greater than ourselves. I would love to be shown I'm wrong.
