Why would you not expose your kids to religion? It's a part of society, and they're going to have to deal with religious people in their work places as well as their personal lives. Failure to expose your kids to religion is a recipe for allowing them to fail when they get out in to the real world.

The key is to teach and emphasize critical thinking skills, so when they are exposed to religion and religious people, they are able to ask deeper more probing questions rather than simply taking at face value what ever comes out of some charasmatic religious figures mouth.

I agree with everything said so far but stress that open communication is key. I had scary moments when she was invited to "church school" by friends in elementary school, or when she decided to take a class on religion in HS so it was good that we could talk about it. At one point I realized the disadvantage I was putting her under by keeping her from learning about religion : our every day lives are filled with biblical references such as pieces of silver, Samson, Lot, etc., so I found myself having to explain all that in the middle of movies.

Teach them critical thinking skills. Teach them logic. Teach them to identify logical fallacies. They should do just fine with that background.

What I did with my kids is teach them to question everything. To think for themselves. I was very honest about what I believed but I always was open with them in finding their own way (to an extent. Certain religions I absolutely said no to but I explained why). I've always encouraged my kids to learn, especially science. Both my kids are very kind hearted and smart kids. And I think they did well navigating through school and social pressures.

I agree, you have to help them through it. Help them to ask questions and find their own conclusions.

Or you could pull them from public school and enroll them in a private or online school.
