This second wave in Europe is infecting more people than the first, probably because people have become blasé.
Actually, it's following the same pattern as the 1918/9 winter's Spanish 'flu. That wasn't nearly as severe as the 1919/20 second wave, which claimed many times more victims.
Horrifying reality.
If the US continues at.the present average of 900 deaths per day, it means a further 60,000 deaths before the end of the year.

Deeply scary

I have a feeling our 2nd wave will extend to spring and then a lull for a while before the third wave hits us and hopefully in less numbers

The USA chart on the Johns Hopkins site shows three peaks with not very deep troughs between them. All European countries show two distinctive peaks, most with a deep trough between them. It graphically shows up the difference in management techniques.
