Great news. Religion is a dying slowly. More people are waking up to reality.

I think the results point to the influence of openly atheistic/agnostic acquaintances or role models in one's social network:

Quote:
Religious respondents who counted a “none” within their inner social circles were less certain about the existence of God than those who didn’t associate with “nones.” This was particularly apparent among Catholics. About 65% of Catholics who aren’t closely connected to “nones” say they are absolutely certain about their belief in God. Only 36% of Catholics who had at least one religiously unaffiliated close friend said the same. Religious people who had at least one “none” in their immediate social circle were also more likely to say that people don’t need to believe in God to be moral and have good values.

I believe that most Christians are just going through the motions. They are part of a club that family belongs to. For proof they often rely on prophesy which is actually an after the fact conclusion. My late stepfather often said prophesy proved the bible and one of it's biggest proofs today is that Jews are coming back to Israel. What is it we are wanting to believe here and when did they leave?

I'm not sure that's great news. I can't believe 65% of people are stupid enough to actually believe. I thought most people just go through the motions to appease family members.

I think you are right. My experience in Catholicism was ~50% were merely going through the motions , just not in their nature to question things
