I'm very much an admirer of Robert Heinlein and have read everything he's published. I'm also big on evidenced based solutions. Early on he was a proponent of corporal punishment and I think it merits some study. It definitely seems a good ass whippin' might be a more effective deterrent to some crimes than a short confinement or a stern warning. I surmise some more volatile and entitled individuals, like say wife beaters, might have their behavior altered. I think it qualifies at present as cruel and unusual but less so than current conditions where inmates being placed at the mercy of fellow inmates to be raped and even killed as part of some warped idea of frontier justice is widely tolerated. I welcome both moral and practical opinions.
