But I feel pretty safe in saying that no other republic over two and a half centuries has attempted as much democracy for so many. It's true that the storming of government buildings never would have been attempted in Putin's Russia -- 3,700 arrested for peacefully protesting -- or Xi's China -- the Uiyghur region turned into an internment camp, and Hong Kong well along the road to same.
