US Politics - I couldn't remember ever having researched the Senate Oath Of Office, so I decided to look it up with an eye toward asking: How is Donald Trump (and particularly his actions on January 6) not an enemy of the US Constitution? How can an intelligent person holding the office of US Senator violate their oath and engage in the spoon-fed sophistry and excuses that so many of the Republican Senators are using?

Oath of Office
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
The problem these are merely words and have little meaning if no actions are put behind them. Perhaps it's why the cowards in the senate let the biggest criminal in this country's history get off because otherwise they might also be held accountable in the future. It is also proof positive why concrete actions need to be take to bring a sense of justice to those that shirk their highest duties. tRump may be gone but is criminality lives on in the republican party.
