"Socialism is what they (Republican politicians and propagandists, and white supremacists)call public power.

"Socialism" is what they call Social Security.

"Socialism" is what they call the growth of free and independent labor unions.

"Socialism" is their name for almost ANYTHING that helps all of the people."

The measure of effectiveness & success should be the survival, health, safety, security, education, community participation, and well-being of all of the people, especially the vulnerable. Democratic Socialism rightly sees equitable investing, for tangible & intangible returns, as beneficial.

@St-Sinner, whilstever your measure of success, purely financial & efficient, applies; we will all fail.

No, we all will not fail. We have not yet in 200 years. We are the envy of the world.

You need basic amenities with efficiency for the basic living. Being financially strong enough is very important to provide it. If you lived in a socialist country, you would know. I lived in one where the basic survival was a struggle every day. Poor and socialist policies destroyed people's lives... bad roads, bad infrastructure, electrical shutdowns, water shortages every day. You cannot go to the prosperity stage because your just struggling every day - no matter how hard you work, how educated you are.

I have seen that people in Western countries have time on their hands, all basic problems are solved. Our challenges are not food, water, electricity, cooking gas, roads, housing, toilets, poverty, child labor, corruption, nation looting. We romanticize socialism. We want what we do not have. Countries and people around the world dream of being like and to be in the US. But we become complacent. We do not appreciate what we have. It happens to people, families, employees. It is silly to compare these tiny countries with the economic behemoth like the US with complex 19 trillion Dollar economy and a different society. Socialists like Bernie have failed big time and will continue to fail in our lifetime and beyond.

We don't dread socialism because we don't know what it really is. We look at the tiny countries in North Europe and we want it too. It is like wanting what our neighbor has... 3 car garage, nicer house, nicer cars etc.

The solution is not to have socialism but to calibrate our existing prosperous systems to improve what we have. The solution is have "controlled capitalism."

Well sauid!

Today's news ... a family in Texas has been charged $17,000 for a few day's electricity supply. Because the supplier decided that demand was so low (everyone else blacked out) that anyone being given supply must pay a premium, to cover their per diem costs. The money has already been taken from the family's bank account. This should not be legal!!
A socialist democracy wouldn't allow this to happen. A market-driven economy, in any industry ... but specifically in essential services industries (power, communications, waste management, health etc etc) ... must also have socially-fair restrictions & protections. Clearly, the ethics of the companies, and industry self-regulation, cannot be trusted.

I always think of this

They don't know what socialism is, they just know they don't like it.

Social Security is broke
Labor unions hold industry and consumers hostage. That's why Reagan fired air traffic controllers.

People are not stupid. They will vote socialists out. Do sensible public programs and run them well. Else we will make them like the post office, social security... always broke and inefficient.

Obhjectivity and ratuonal, evidence-based thinking appear not to be your long suits.

@wordywalt

But the history shows otherwise. La la land is not my expertise. I tell it as it is. Are you not reading that social security is broke every now and then and the post office is incurring losses? Isn't Amtrak in the red too? Do you want to fund another monster with other taxpayers' money? That seems to be the socialists' passion. I want everything but I want other people to pay for it.

You socialists should get together, raise money and start anything you want. Don't use other taxpayers' money for your crazy ideas.

@St-Sinner Social security is not broke. It is losing money now because Republicans in congress consistently prevent adequate structure and funding. Every country in western Europe has an effective national retirement system which is funct8ioning well, with occasional adjustments. We could and should do the same.

@wordywalt

Western European countries, you say. Those are tiny countries and have a very high taxation. We do not want that. We don't want all people to pay for some people's socialist crazy ideas. Why are you not citing East European countries that were under socialism?

@St-Sinner You don't know your geography or exconomic geography. Further, eastern European outries were not under self-chosen socialism. They were ujnder externally imposed communist rule backed by hundreds of thousands of Russian troops in ther countries. Further, under that system, they were looted by Russia for decades. They are still struggling to overcome the damage which Russia created for them. Those are the real facts that you failed to mention.

@wordywalt this is absolutely true .

@wordywalt

Communism and socialism are sisters. Same consequences. Forced or voluntary, it produced the same results... inefficiency, red tape, high prices, shortages, bloated bureaucracy. The US has not prospered with socialism. It has become world's top economy, economic superpower, one of the top countries most sought after by people to come and live in. It is a human habit to look for what they don't have. We always want what our neighbor has and stop appreciating what we have. You are that human. You love socialism that much but you would not live there. Why? Because you still like the abundance, competition, low prices in capitalism.

Th solution is not to do more socialism but calibrate our existing successful system to do more "sensible" programs to control the evils of capitalism. Uncontrolled capitalism produced very bad results. The American voters have not elected socialism candidates yet. There is a reason for it. They like capitalism and still agree that we should control it.

@Wangobango3

Knit picking

@Wangobango3

Thank you.

@St-Sinner Again, you missed or ignored key facts. Those eastern European countries did not choose communism. They had it imposed on them by Russia. They Russians installed puppet regimes and stationed hundreds of thousands of Russian troops in the countries to impose their will.

Further, if you do not understand there a number of forms of socialism, most of them non-Marxist, and most of them not dictatorial. If you do not understand the difference between non-Marxist socialism, social democracy and communism, you do not understand politics, ec0onomics, or philosophy. You do not represent yourself well, writing with such hootspah but also with a lack of knowledge.

@wordywalt

I am trying to tell you... No Socialism. Period.

@St-Sinner That is your choice. But, I will oppose any attempt to put out fa;lse statements and/or misrepresentations designed to persaude others to join your point of view.

@wordywalt

You do what you must. I will hunt down every socialist post and oppose and expose. Just like I chased off crazy old wanna-be-president Bernie. America is not a socialist country and should never be.
