“Forgiveness requires a sense that bad behaviour is a sign of suffering rather than malice.”
― Alain de Botton
I remember a serial killer, he was executed. His childhood was suffering, he had a beloved pet executed in front of him for some minor offense. He was too dangerous to be in society but my heart went out to that child. I have a friend to whom that happened, she's troubled but not at all violent. One of the worst things about Christian Right is the idea of righteous punishment, they're proud of their cruelty. They delight that many will be sexually assaulted in prison while not even considering that this "justice" isn't inflicted on the worst but the weakest. The people nailing Jesus to the cross today would be proudly proclaiming their faith.
