A friend of mine who is a retired doctor, as well as a friend who just began working at a hospice program, have told me that the Delta variant of Covid is starting to really spread among kids, who are too young to be vaccinated, in my part of Iowa. The kids hospital in Des Moines, my area, is becoming full with seriously ill kids with Covid. So both of them are now telling me that it's time to start masking and distancing again if we are inside around crowds of people, if we even choose to go to those situations in the first place. And that if we do go to those situations inside, to stay far away from young kids.

What have the rest of you heard and what do you think about this? I live in a red state, where the Repub guv has already taken away all local control or authority to not allow in person school this fall, and also will not issue any statewide mask order. She already fought any local mask orders earlier in the pandemic even before vaccines were available. I have no doubt she is hellbent on forcing all school districts to offer only in person school this fall, instead of allowing hybrid or all online learning. It's a superspreader event waiting to happen...

The Repugnicant Party has shown itself to be grossly inadequate when addressing the Covid-19 pandemic. History will not judge it kindly.

History will probably judge it harshly, but in the short term meantime, I predict the voters in states like mine will be way too forgiving of how badly the Repub Party has mishandled Covid. I so wish the voters in my state would hold Covid Kim, our Repub governor, accountable in a year when she is up for re-election, for her terrible handling of the pandemic. But I know that most of them are dumb as a box of rocks, so she will probably win.

The weird thing is that most of the GOP got their vaccination and yet tell their voters not or that they shouldn't have to. It doesn't even make sense. They take it serious enough to get their vaccination but present it to their voters that it isn't serious.

@TreeSpirit It would be wrong to accuse the GOP of being either compassionate or rational.

It's ironic the gop is always on about rights and freedoms. Then right from jump your gop guv takes away the rights of people in the state to make choices that have proven to save lives.
Today was the first time I went to a gathering with a lot of people - there were 20 or so friends gathered at a semi enclosed venue to honor a friend who passed away very suddenly 3 weeks ago. Apparently a heart attack. I felt a little anxious but decided not to wear a mask, I would have been the only one. Given the vaccine efficacy is less against the variant I won't be doing anything like that again.
My thoughts are, stupid has prevailed and more will suffer long term health issues or die.

They are all for rights and freedoms, as long as it's not a woman's right to abortion, or colored people's right to vote, or worker's rights to form a union. I could go on and on, but you all get the point....Rights and freedoms only seem to belong to the rich, corporations, conservatives, and straight white males.
