Algae, one of the most common species on the planet, the red variant being just a little unique but not in that area of the world with high salinity. Science is so stupid, religion and superstition is so smart.
It actually looks more purple than blood red, maybe it was a bunch of cheap plonk dumped in the pond? I don't know.
