I sometimes wonder if it's neccesary in life to be interested in religion for a period to learn about moral values, and to find peace and love in our mind? Wich sources of wisdom are there for atheists?

It's not necessary to have a or a belief in god to learn moral values. Start with "right or wrong", then apply the Golden (lifted from the NT, but accepted into general usage.) I do my very best to live by that and it works for me.

Hell no have you read the Bible there is no moral values in that book.

I was born into an Atheist family (generations) and my values were instilled by my parents and relatives through common sense: The difference between good and bad....which is what leads you to peace and love

I definitely don't think we need to experience religion in order to have moral values. Even animals know right from wrong and it benefits all species to live in a society which promotes well being.

I think religion is worth study, because as a topic is probably worthwhile to understand, but I would be hard-pressed to reference the majority of those codexes as morally useful. Taoism is pretty great, though.

A person can get most of what he/she needs just by understanding the Golden Rule. Beyond that, one can neatly avoid religious works and the associated dogma by studying philosophy. There is so much classic philosophical literature out there to choose from it's mind-boggling.
