Men, what are your favorite flowers?
You often don’t get asked, and that’s bullshit. Anyone can say what their favorites are, but I think it would be neat if the guys could talk about it and say why they like something.

Irises. In the 70's I lived in a small tourist town in Michigan named Saugatuck. Irises grew randomly where weeds and wild flowers would normally be seen. I found out that at some point in it's history they had tried to make Saugatuck the Iris capitol of Michigan, much like nearby Holland was the tulip capital. (Of course it was...) The beautiful random Irises, different colors and types, dazzeled. They're exotic, sexy, variously colorful.

Lilac roses are my favorite scented flower with freesia a close second.
Frangipani, but thinking about that sweet, heavy, almost cloying scent makes me dreadfully homesick.

Are those Italian?
@ScientistV to be honest, I don't know. They're pretty common in Sydney though, and on warm summer nights you can smell them a block away.
This is a great question. I kept fresh flowers by my husband's tv table when he was ill.
He wasn't shy about loving flowers. I used to plant Heavenly Blue morning glories just for him.
I'm also a sucker for a guy who'll get dirty gardening

We have a whole garden full of asiatics. I think there are about 20 varieties in there now.
That’s an interesting question. I mean, I love the way black roses look. But I think my favorite flower would be the Dahlia flower.

@ScientistV I like the Gallery Monet breed. That beautiful blend of white and purple is extremely pretty to me. And I like all of the petals as well.
We used to sell them at the garden center section of a lumber/home improvement store I used to work out.
@Leo716 my favorite was double petaled and deep purple, I can’t remember it’s breed though. :/

Yeah, I like flowers for about 2 mins. If someone bought me flowers, I would feel like they didn't really know me, and they were buying something they liked, or thought I should like. It would be award. Not sure if I'm a typical guy, nor do I think there is anything wrong with a guy liking flowers.

Our irises are always the first thing to bloom in spring. They look like a weed the rest of the year, but I gotta love them for being brave enough to be first.

Weird, daffodils usually appear first— but cool! What kinds of Irises? Japanese or the kind with a top petal?
My iris immortalis NEVER bloomed for me until like last year... I don’t think it’ll go this year though. :/
@ScientistV Well, we don't have daffodils, so there's that, and unfortunately the irises are so old now I don't recall what variety they are, but they're completely reliable and zero maintenance. First thing in bloom every year, never fail to bloom, and only spread slowly in small clusters. If they were in bloom, I'd post a photo, but they're not up yet.
@Yosemite62 what colors? Or do you have multiple ones then? My mom has several heirloom varieties which are cool too.
@ScientistV - A slightly purplish shade of blue. Very slightly.

@FrayedBear definitely very 3-D, almost reminiscent of clockwork... ever see the closeups of orchids that look like hummingbirds or bees?

@ScientistV Just revisited the flickr photos to confirm your "clock" perception. My extravagance however prefers to see wonderful technicolour spaceships and flying saucers. ? A view point that I'm surprised that you did not leap upon particularly given your propensity for gorgeously patterned stockings. ?

I like seeing, smelling, watching the insects around them.
Most plants as well. I worked in a greenhouse - wholesale grower - for a few years.
Can't really pick a favorite - they're all nice.

I've never been a fan of cut flowers, but I love looking at a Jacaranda tree in full blossom, or the delicate flowers of an Almond tree in early springtime. Even a field of poppies, which will wilt within a minute of being picked, so wouldn't be much use in a vase, anyway.

Most types of flowers and myself are at odds with each other (I'm allergic to pollen and the allergies can get pretty bad at times).

That’s rough, tree flowers and lilies get my allergies hard, but I really like the heritage roses, though they have more fragrant blooms than typical mass-bred roses.
