I am literally practicing therapeutic breathing techniques right now to avoid blasting a family member that shared this on FB...

When you can't unfriend (because family drama), unfollow is your friend.

For those who deny that the Civil War was about slavery, tell them to read South Carolina's Declaration of Causes for Secession, or Georgia's, or Texas'. The red, white, and blue paid homage to the two previous flags, English and U.S., that represented the southern states, and there were not 13 states which seceded; there were 11.

The world where nothing is true or everything could be.

Another example of fake internet junk. Anyone knowing anything about the Civil War or at least done some simple research or fact checking would know this "post" from FB is not true at all. People make up stuff for their own bizarre ends.

Those ends seeming, in this situation, to give bigots something to defend themselves with when reasonable human beings challenge their incredibly poor choice in decoration.

And I would enlist AGAIN just to fight THAT!

What it REALLY means..."We won't give up our slaves & you can't make us!"

But if it's on the internet it MUST be true! Uuuugh ??‍♀️

It means I'm a frustrated white man to me

Hopefully they’re only related through marriage...

This particular family member is.

Oh, so that's why they call it X-mas instead of Christmas. Mystery solved.

Can you post this in response? [snopes.com]

I could and would love to, but would likely end up alienating people I care about. Therefore, I took deep breaths and tried to remember that she is free to post whatever she wants on her page, without a fact bitch slap from me.

If she tries to post something on my page, then it’s open season. I remember a family member tagged me in her post selling devotional tees and added me to the group she had created, so I shared an Atheist page to the group. She stopped trying to push her religion on me after that.

@Leeshi Awesome.

@RavenCT thanks for the snopes link!

@RavenCT, @Leeshi You could always just post the snopes link on your page with no reference to hers. I'm sure the connection would be made, but you will not have confronted directly & still have made your point. Just a thought.

I just posted it.

I'm giving you a thumbs up for not going postal.

Have you considered telling them what it really represents?

@JustKip Aware - but I got some "Crazy" In my family too. lol

I have, but she is very set in her ways and I’m pretty sure any argument I make would only serve to alienate her.

While I don’t agree with everything she says and feel that much of the problem is willful ignorance and just accepting something without proof because it’s easier than finding the answer, she is still family and I don’t want to alienate her or her more immediate family, who are absolutely amazing. So, yes, it would be a bad thing.
