And the newly discovered denizen of the east coast regions of Australia.
Just the guy/gal you DO NOT want to meet up with day or night time.
This is the new Mega-spider, a species of Funnel-Web Spider related to the Sydney Funnel-Web with the attitude and personality of its smaller cousins, the venom of its smaller cousins BUT this comes armed with fangs thick enough and sharp enough to pierce through an adult humans fingernail and inject the venom straight into the flesh beneath.
Where the cousins measure an average size of body around 5 to 9 or 10 cms from head to tail, according to the scientists who are now studying it, its body measure out at approx. dainty (???) little 12.5 to 21.4 cms.
As for me I don't care how big and bad an attitude it has, I see it first and it gets to go join its ancestors REAL quick fast.

Good grief!
That continent is teeming with things that want to kill you.

Not ALL wanting to kill everyone, we are TRYING to teach the deadly ones to concentrate ONLY Christians, God-mobsters, Evangelicals, persons of other religious persuasions, Lawyers and of course Politicians though.

And you're not alone on that comment either.

@Triphid I hate them all, & some more than others. I get really good with a heavy foot, or newspaper.

@Lilac-JadeCanada Ever tried the "Bible" method of Spider conversion....LOL.
It works great for me, the "Bible" method is 100% accurate and they are INSTANTLY converted....LOL.

@Triphid Uh....no.....I don't have one of those things in my house.

@Lilac-JadeCanada Get one, I recommend them as Bug Extermination devices, especially the hard cover versions.

Isn't its bite almost always fatal? I hope one doesn't hitch a ride here to the US. We have black widow and brown recluse spiders where I live, but they are shy.

Mostly in small children, elderly adults, cats and smaller breeds of dogs, though we do now have an antivenom available.
Then we also have this little 'lady' ( I used the term lady very loosely here btw) the Red-backed Spider.
A distant relative of your Black Widow I think, she has a really bad attitude an even worse temper and a taste for ANYTHING that she can paralyse and wrap up to store for later, which INCLUDES an potential suitors and who ever has the misfortune to mate with her but is a bit too slow on the exit and get away.
In the late Spring of 1976 I was helping out on a friends Sheep Property and one evening needed to use the "long-drop toilet" which was in use until the concrete slab for the new toilets with attached septic tank systems had set and we could then install the toilet frame work, etc.
In my haste I did NOT see one of these hiding under the seat, she bit me in a very sensitive place, the place that men have btw, and I spent the next 10 days in hospital thanks to her.

@Triphid Wow...that's awful!!! Glad you're better. 🙂 What a terrible experience! I got bitten by a brown recluse once while harvesting some beans. I stuck my hand into the bean tent, and pulled out a spider. While the bite was nasty, and got infected, it healed without incident, except I took antibiotics for a while. I knew someone who has lupus who nearly lost an arm to the same kind of spider. Black widows are worse, because they inject a neurotoxin. I saw one inside my ice maker in the fridge once, and it ran so fast I couldn't get it. It went under the stove, and I never saw it again. They run very fast! I love all other (non-toxic) spiders, even big scary-looking wolf spiders.

@Organist1 Check out the song composed and sung about my spider MIS-adventure on You tube.
It was written by Slim Newton during the days I was hospitalised and while he was still staying out on the property.
Ever since he wrote, sung and released it he keeps telling people that it was me and the spider that made him a Star.
The songs is, oddly enough, called "Red-back on the toilet seat."

@Triphid 😀 That is truly amazing to have a song written about your experience! I love the song, too. I would like to know if you would mind my learning it to perform in the guitar circle I go to every Thursday night. The others would love it, despite its tale of woe. BTW, did you ever catch that spider?

@Organist1 No problems, go ahead, learn it an sing it, I'm sure my old friend Slim won't mind either.
Btw, he did also write the sequel songs about the Redback as well nd they are on You tube music as well.

@Triphid I will check them out in a little while...thanks!

@Triphid Terrible things.

@Lilac-JadeCanada I'd rather face down a redback, a brown snake or an angry 'roo any day than a Grizzly Bear, a Skunk, a Mountain Lion or a Moose on the rampage thank you.
