Which way to the Asylum? For years I smiled and let the Believers, spout their tripe. Then Republicans courted the christian fringe, and as they breed, the fringe takes an upper hand. Red states, blues states, red herrings, spin doctors and curmudgeon marionettist hidden by shabby shawls. I'll take the asylum...

The woman who lives across the street told me her church "prayed that Trump would get elected." I was horrified. I asked her why and she gave the usual babbel about him being "Christian" and some other things. I attempted to point out all the inaccuracies but who has time? There are so many. Besides, she believed none of what I was saying. She would believe none of what I was saying.

She knocked on the door yesterday. She had a flat tire. I gave her a can of fix-a-flat that I had in the garage. Noticed her car. Religious sayings on stickers on every part of her car. I was thinking "who are you trying to convince?" Which, really, is part of the whole, look-at-me-I'm-good thing she was trying to push. That a lot of them are trying to push. Facts don't matter. It's appearance that matters. And if facts and appearance don't match up, lie and lie again if you have to. Accept no evidence to the contrary.

It seems as though, if they lie to themselves - and others long enough, it becomes their method of existence. And when expected to do something constructive, they instinctively lie some more.. They’ve dug a hole so deep - they can’t climb out! Worse, they’re trying to pull us in with them, as company ..to enjoy their misery 😕

These are the kind of people who eventually have total mental or emotional breakdowns … and if there were Asylums ..might pack their halls… What I can’t determine is if Religion is a mental illness, or a symptom..?

“It seemed to me,' said Wonko the Sane, 'that any civilization that had so far lost its head as to need to include a set of detailed instructions for use in a package of toothpicks, was no longer a civilization in which I could live and stay sane.”
― Douglas Adams, So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish

It is worth noting Wonko the Sane lived in a house with a notice on the inside of his front door, saying "This way to the asylum" because beyond that door was where all the mad people lived.

Recently, my mantra to keep myself sane is "Just humans doing human things." In other words, we've always been self-destructive and short-sighted as a species. In fact, our society is well beyond what our evolution has prepared us for already. Tough times are ahead, and whether we survive or not depends on if we're willing and able to adapt and change as a species. Ohh, that's a depressing thought. Just humans doing human things.

Reserved a seat.

Always leaves me wondering what we look like to the civilized world. And, I’ve been on the same ride.. As the world recovered from WW2 … we rode high as the only industrialized nation in full production. And having procured even more offshore resources - Happy Days! ..time to play ... big cars, interstate hwys, vacations, industrial military, obsession with sports, competitive religions, conspicuous consumption, urban sprawl and a babyboom!

Providing national healthcare, serious education, retooled industries, healthy entertainment - and not spending inordinate funds on their military … life’s gotten better for most of the world. ‘Over here,’ we’ve been feeling a decline for decades … cuz we’ve got competition..

US, in decline? The most powerful nation in… We’re Blessed! So what’s wrong - and who did it -- and who must we beat up or overthrow to get it back..? Not everyone, not even the majority ..but just enough loudmouth aggressives to march lock-step to the polls … as the complacent politically correct scatter in confusion and fear ...to allow ‘this.’

Are there Asylums anymore..? If so, wanna race 😉

There is no asylum, only madness. It is a madness cultivated for profit, beliefs of many kinds are used to manipulate and control.

Mr. Man of Dumas, there is no asylum. Despite our outsized incarceration rate, or perhaps because of it, we can hope to return home every day with our heads firmly attached to our bodies. That is more that many people can realistically hope for every day after they open their eyes. And the fact that things are far from perfect here doesn’t mean that they can’t get worse rather fast. Let’s try to take advantage of the fact that we can fight the good fight. Tomorrow, for instance, it’s Earth Day. We should show up and be counted whenever we can.

This speaks to one of the motivating factors that led me to reject the loving god people wanted to share so much. How could I thank a loving god for my blessings, such as being incredibly safe here in the US, when people who happen to be born into other nations do not have the same blessings? The arrogance implicit in thanking someone for my blessings bowled me over. But I am thankful for the benefits I have. To history, to law, and to a very very imperfect nation that is better than most.

Welcome to the asylum. Enjoy your stay.
