A recent exchange on Quora I had fun with and hope you might find interesting:
Question:
What are the best ways to get out of a red light camera ticket?
Answer from a “Retired Police”:
If you got a red light ticket, that means that you broke a law and (probably) endangered the lives of at least several others plus yourself. I can see no reason why anyone would or should help you after what you did.
My Response:
As a police officer you should have been required to take an oath of office to uphold the Constitution. That oath did not expire when you retired. You should be ashamed of your answer.
the Constitution that you swore to uphold, a person is innocent until proven guilty. if someone gets a red light camera ticket it does not mean that they broke the law. It means they have been charged with breaking the law.
Anyone charged with breaking a law is entitled to a defense against the charge. Maybe someone would help them because, unlike you, they believe in the rule of law and not a jackboot-licking totalitarian state.
BTW, given the fact that a very high percentage of the traffic tickets issued in California are written in direct violation of the law I see it as our civic duty to fight the tickets for revenue scam by challenging and beating every ticket we possibly can.
P.S. I’m glad you are retired. It’s cops like you who are the reason people have so respect for the police.
