A writer for the NY Times feels that Manchin is subverting Democracy by not supporting the Build Back Better Bill. He feels one Democrat Senator subverts the other 49 Democrat Senators, and hence Democracy.

Whether one supports BBB or not, the notion that Manchin is subverting Democracy shows just one thing, that being the person making the remark doesn't know what Democracy is.

First, what about the 50 Republican Senators who don't support BBB? Are they also subverting Democracy? Second, since W. Va is one of the most Red States we have, would not one expect the Senator (Democratically elected by W. Va residents) to vote much more like a Republican than a Democrat? Isn't the Senator supposed to reflect the views of the majority of his State?

There can be no hiding Atheist rethuglicans in USA political history ....since Lincoln and peers left the Whigs in 1855 the GOP does not deserve the word "conservative" then or now.... preserving patriarchal policies forcing women to stay pregnant repealing minimum wage laws are the defining hot button issues .... why self respecting Atheists sully themselves with incompetent idiots in their Cadre of heroes like Ronald Wilson ReaGUN who got our Marines murdered in a Beirut Hotel and bankrupted the USA Treasury over 3 trillion dollars CANNOT be labeled conservative when Jimmah Carter biggest deficit was 55 billion....I am a lifelong Green Party leader an Union organizer preserving living wages for workers cleaning up the environment from polluter profiteers....we deserve the good word conservative born in the Teddy Roosevelt conservationist era improving food safety and greatly expanding socialist national parks,&,preserves...the 1st Green President....wake up North Carolina and vote Green @MatthewPHoh US Senate 2022

US military Captain Mathew Patrick Hoh retired fully qualified to stop Pentagon trillion dollar frauds like the F35 violating the 80% readiness law every year and Trident subs we have no crews for 2 thirds of the fleet

While I am not a Republican, when I see one using the term "Rethuglican" I stop reading. that is childish. I also stop reading when one uses the term "Dumbocrat".

I prefer to read what adults write.

My opinion is its bidens fault. Poor leadership, relying on every last dem vote is just poor planing. What about this whole unity thing he kept saying during his campaign, guy can't even get his own party in line.

The problem is trying to bundle every wish in one large package. Separate bills would have had more success.

As a progressive liberal, his opposition is 'annoying', but I totally agree he is likely following the wants of his constituents.

@TheInterlooper Where is it written that Liberals are individualists?

@TheInterlooper Locke died L-O-N-G before the current Liberal movement started (about 1960). Locke would not recognize any current political party or movement.

Liberals today are without doubt collectivists.

@TheInterlooper Are you kidding??? The term "Liberal" has NOTHING to do with Liberty. It is used to describe the oppposite of Conservative, which is used to mean "conservation" of the status quo. The "Liberal" is open to change.

You obviously don't know what you are talking about.

@TheInterlooper Your ignorace is astounding. I challenge you to cite any source that equates a political liberal to the term "liberty".

@TheInterlooper I believe our difference relates the reply to FearlessFly's post of 12/20, meaning the context of his post and current political terminology, and the fact that I was referring to Nouns, not Adjectives Here are two definitions from the Merrrian Webster Dictionary:

liberal
noun
lib·er·al | \ ˈli-b(ə-)rəl \
Definition of liberal (Entry 2 of 2)
: a person who is liberal: such as
a: one who is open-minded or not strict in the observance of orthodox, traditional, or established forms or ways
bcapitalized : a member or supporter of a liberal political party (see LIBERAL ENTRY1 SENSE 6)
c: an advocate or adherent of liberalism especially in individual rights

conservative
noun
Definition of conservative (Entry 2 of 2)
1a: an adherent or advocate of political conservatism
bConservative : a member or supporter of a conservative political party
2a: one who adheres to traditional methods or views
b: a cautious or discreet person

While if we go back to Greek terminology we can find a Liberal/Liberty association, the posting discussion only related to current political associations.

I also find issue in your 12/27 reply wherein you mention a Stawman argument. I fail to see any Strawman argument in the entire exchange
