The 'crises' (not a crises but a blessing) has been around here for a long time. One priest in my area got sent to Green Bay, Wisconsin. Several years later he returned but this time had three parishes to tend to. So much going on in the west with the outing of pedophilia among the clergy and even homosexuality among priests. Then there is the problem of more and more priests falling out of the order (not just Catholics but other sects as well). The 'clergy project' helps these people gain a foothold in rational society. One big time donor ($250,000) for the FFRF group, Stephen Uhl was such a priest. He left the priesthood and met/married Diane who now runs his estate. [ffrf.org]
[ffrf.org] "Steve Uhl says that as he’s aged, he’s noticed “more of the growing tyranny of the Christian majority in this great land of ours.”"

There was a BBC documentary in England on just this subject some five years ago, relating to African priests being "imported en masse" to fill vacancies in England caused by a shortage of new priests who are now able to exert their will over which parishes they will take on.
One young priest shipped in from Zambia was interviewed, he was under the impression he had been sent to the UK as a promotion after catering to a congregation of hundreds of enthusiastic you people, only to find himself in an inner city parish with a congregation totally made up of old women between the ages of 65 and 90 for whom he was expected to prepare funerals.

This crisis has been present in Ireland for more than a decade…there are virtually no Irish priests being trained at Maynooth …the largest Catholic training college in the world. Maynooth seminary in Co. Wicklow near Dublin, with 500 places to train priests, reached an all time low in 2017 with only 7 applicants. It celebrated its 225th anniversary last year in 2020 and one of the senior Irish clerics remarked at the celebrations…”best mark the 225th anniversary well because it’s unlikely it’ll see it’s 250th!”….we can only hope they put this magnificent Pugin designed building to some better use in the future.
