I'm reading a novel and in it there's so much passion. The earth shattering desperation of two people madly in love with each other and it's so breathtaking and burning like a nuclear bomb

Sigh

I've never known that before. Ive never had that raw untameable passion and need. That mutual love and desire that weaves itself into the very marrow of your bones.

Someday I'd like to feel it other than just for cheesecake.

But unfortunately all I can think about while reading this is how much I love cheesecake

I guess I've been lucky. I've had four long term relationships, and all started out in what one lovely lass termed "the Coitusphere" - a hermetically sealed chamber where the two of us consumed - no, gorged on each other, drunk with lust. It'd be nice to feel that heat again. I hope it's still possible.

I think passion is a thing of youth. ...boy will I catch it for that comment! Moreover, the romance in novels and movies is always overblown and never includes the human side of living, like going to the bathroom, sneezes, body odor, all the stuff that exists in the real world.

As for myself, if I'm ever fortunate enough to find someone who simply likes me exactly as I am and wants to share our thoughts and feelings I'd be totally ecstatic.

What happens after the heat is banked back to a wonderfully cozy set of warming coals, but no real fire? THAT is the true test of love and a relationship. Can you, will you, stick it out when the passion has faded?

The book is fiction, right? Yeah........fiction! 🙂

Any romance is fiction to me lol

I completely understand how you feel. Like I have some kinks that I'm into but my biggest fantasy? Having a boyfriend who is so attracted to me and loves me so much that sometimes he just can't help pushing me up against a wall and crushing me with his body and passionate kisses. Not exactly overly kinky but it would just make me feel so good for a guy to just absolutely need me that way.

As a trekkie I have to begin with a Lenard Nimoy quote 'Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory'

I can imagine loving someone in such a way but it requires two things; we have to click, completely, we have to be totally on the same page(by this i mean she has to love me with no illusions for who i am and i her). Thats the easy part, the second, and more important part(linking to the nimoy quote) you have to deliberately make an effort in the relationship, to give attention to your partner and, in the best of worlds, they reciprocate. In my personal experience its the reciprocation part thats the problem.

But also finding someone who clicks enough is difficult, I like star trek(obviously) movies physics and science in general(im doing a physics degree), shakespeare to a lesser degree and science fiction/books in general. Im also not particularily fit, im not obese but far from fit, Im a pretty boring person in many ways i enjoy sitting down watching a film and i spend most of my time studying (whether im actively in education or not).

*oh and im practically penniless!

You find me a girl whos 'into that' and isnt 2000 miles away and Ill direct you to a gold mine so we can get rich, because clearly you have talents beyond this temporal world.

To summerise, I think people who want that passion just need to find someone who genuinely can love them for who they are, and thats hard for most of us as we are far from exceptional people(im speaking for myself here), and people have to make an effort to be there for their partner.

@Shaun1471 I had a boyfriend for 1.5 years and was married for 20+ years. Both times I found myself putting in way more effort than the other person. I would like to be in the top 5 of someone's priority list. Thankfully after spending so many years married, I am really enjoying being single and actually dating for the first time in my life (I'm 44).

@Marcie1974 Yes thats exactly what I mean, we all have to find someone who wants to put in the effort, but yes its hard to do(or find) in reality.

*I think the reality is some of us will have to make the real choice between settling for an acceptable but sup par partner or dying single!

@Shaun1471 I've done the sub par thing....I'd rather die alone. Had I not been married for so long I would probably have the opposite opinion though

@Marcie1974 I am for better or for worse in the category of 'wait until someone worth my time passes my view' but I imagine that means Ill be dying alone as I do not come across many people in general, let alone people I like! Id rather die alone than waste my time on someone who doesnt deserve it though. I don't find that to be a good use of my limited time on the earth!

@Shaun1471 are you really 81?
