What if someone drove their car into his bedroom and killed him as he slept? Should we ban all vehicles too? What do you care about American politics so much anyway, mind your own business.

Tejas Level 8 Jan 22, 2022

Cars are essential part of most people's lives and necessary to work, get basic supplies, and travel. Cars were not designed to kill people and billions of dollars has been spent on making cars as safe as possible. Modern society relies on people being able to travel.

Guns are not essential to most people's lives. Guns were designed to quickly and efficiently kill people. Billions of dollars has been spent on making guns more lethal and little is spent on making guns safer. Modern society has no need for guns.

So, yea, big difference there.

@Charles1971 cars are not a constitutional right they are a privilege. Guns are a constitutional right. How's that for a difference?

@Tejas Please tell me the name of the well regulated militia that you belong to?

And when the 2nd Amendment was ratified it took a full minute to load and fire a gun. Now someone can purchase a gun that shoots ten bullets per second.

It seems to me that guns are the real privilege and cars are a necessity.

@Charles1971 your lack of firearm knowledge is abundant to say the least. Your interpretation of the second amendment is fairly skewed as well, but yeah if that's what the second amendment means to you how come in all 50 states private militias are illegal? I expect you to fight for private militias as much as you fight against firearm ownership, or by your own words you are a hypocrite.

Got to look out for those flying cars when you live in a first floor apartment

@Charles1971 Don't expect a rational argument with a gun lover, You will be disappointed.

@Tejas True... I lack firearm knowledge. I also lack rape knowledge but that doesn't stop me from being very much against rape.

But private militias are legal.. though even if they are not they still exist. The Southern Poverty Law Group estimates that there are well over 200 antigovernment militia groups in the U.S.

I don't fight for private militias because I see no need for them and I don't think they are a good idea.

Also, I never said I was against firearm ownership. I simply said guns were not essential to daily life (unlike vehicles which are essential). But gun laws are ridiculously weak in the U.S. and the sheer number of guns is disgusting and what firearms people are allowed to own and how many is insane.

@Charles1971 private militias are illegal in all 50 states, look it up. Comparing a violent crime like rape to ownership of a tool or a recreational activity like shooting is crazy and irrational. You didn't say you were against gun ownership but you did say its not necessary in modern society, which is false. Semi automatic firearms can't fire at the rate you claim they do. They can only fire as fast you can pull the trigger. I would argue gun laws here are alot stricter than alot of people would like.

Cool. Militias are illegal. Since you nor anyone else legally belongs to a militia then that essentially invalidates the 2nd Amendment. Great!

Comparing a volant crime to weapons used to commit violent crimes seems fair to me. Though what I actually said that I was against rape.

There are about 39 million people with hunting licenses in the U.S. yet there are 434 million guns. I suppose one needs nearly a dozen guns to shoot a deer. And two-thirds of those guns are semi-automatics. I guess you need to put a few dozen bullets into Bambi to take that sucker down.

I also said that a person can legally purchase a gun that fires 10 bullets per second. I did not specify that the gun had to be a hand-held semi-automatic. An M134 minigun has a ROF of about 600 rounds per minute. These guns can be legally purchased in the U.S.

@Charles1971 guns are not only just for hunters. What about people who own to defend themselves or their family? You wouldn't want to defend your house with a bolt action. What about people who participate in shooting competitions? Gun enthusiasts? What about ranchers who have to kill dozens of hogs or coyotes on a regular basis? If you actually looked up what it would take to own a full auto weapon you would see how dumb your comment is. Just because you think people shouldn't own guns doesn't mean everyone does how bout you move to a non gun friendly state and mind your business?

@Tejas Why can't a person defend themselves with a revolver or a shotgun? You live in the U.S, not some war torn country where you have to fight off pirates and bandits.

People need high speed rifles for shooting competitions? Doubtful. But that's a hobby. Find another hobby.

Gun enthusiasts? Who cares. Hey, what if I want to be a pipe bomb enthusiast? Or a meth enthusiast? Enthusiasm isn't a right.

Ranchers have been protecting their ranches from hogs and coyotes for centuries. I'm sure a basic rifle will suffice.

Also, no, I will not mind my own business. I get sick of turning on the news and hearing about yet another mass shooting or another school shooting and more dead children. You don't see these things happening in Canada or the UK or Australia or other industrialized nations because they have sensible gun laws and restrictions. In the U.S., guns are given more value than human lives.

@Charles1971 why don't you move to the UK Canada or Australia then? "Sensible" gun laws have proven countless times they do not work here. Some evidence of that is high gun violence in cities with strict gun laws. Your arguments to me are mostly based in emotion and ignorance rather than facts and goodwill. I don't see the need to continue this "debate".

@Tejas Why not move? That's purely idiotic. Would YOU move to another country if the U.S. cracked down on guns and heavily restricted them like most other sane countries?

Also, even if militias are technically illegal then how do white nationalist groups like the Oath Keepers, Three Percenters, Proud Boys and scores of others continue to exist and freely organize in public?

A city with strict gun laws is fine but when a person can drive an hour or two and get to another city or even another state with flimsy gun laws then it doesn't really matter.

And as far as I can see your arguments are based on nothing but your own personal desire to own a big phallic symbol. But don't reply if you don't want to. It won't hurt my feelings.
