Have you ever seen the wanton destruction of caged birds by foxes? They kill out of blood lust not hunger.

Or lambs tortured by having their tongues ripped out?

[agriculture.vic.gov.au]

Not much of a cage if you cant keep a fox out

@Redneckliberal Hens are best free range - a bit like people in vs out of prison. I've not heard of caged lamb & sheep rearing. Even in iceland they are let out in the mountains to roam free.

@frayedbear with trained dogs

@Redneckliberal sarcasm alert. is that to keep the predatory American tourists off them?

I can't imagine eating fox. The only reason for killing one, and not judging the reasons from any moral standpoint, would be to get the pelt or because it was attacking one's domestic fowl. That latter reason would be the only one I'd find acceptable, and then only as a last resort. Are foxes a protected species?

No

You dont even need to kill to protect livestock.... You keep livestock in a protected place and keep a couple of dogs as guard.... I lived off grid for years and thats how its correctly done.... As for killing for fur ... Please
as a disclaimer i am a hunter... Not for sport but for meat to feed my family and neighjbors that needed a hand..... You never hunt for the biggest trophy but the young and stupid ... Better meat.... Leave the older ones to breed.. Theyre older for a reason

Oh... As for mr fox.. Leave him... He is an excellent control for rats mice and other pests.. Far better than any cat

You don’t eat fox. You can, but it’s not very good meat. They’re taken for their fur.

Testosterone fueled asshole, rich people did it for sport

Well, I guess it's better than killing a donkey or the symbol of the democrats.

what can you expect from some of that bunch? i keep those expectations real low for sensible behavior. maybe they'll get a rash or something.

I hate hunting purely for sport. If you aren't going to eat it don't kill it unless it's going to kill you.

Hunting contributes alot of money in wildlife conservation. Certain places in Africa hunting is the main source of income for wildlife conservation. I personally don't hunt because I don't see the sport in it. But without hunters in general many species would go extinct.

@tejas yes and no.... The only hunting that is allowed is for culling reasons and the permits are quite expensive.... Further there is absolutly no sport involved in this process.. Its much like shooting fish in a barrel .... Ive traveled africa extensively ... Moving there permanently soon

Hi there.
'In Africa, hunting is the main sourc of income for wildlife conservation.'
'Without hunters, in general, many species would go extinct.'
So, how does hunting contribute to wildlife conservation, and which species would go extinct without hunting?

@Redneckliberal ever see pictures of those rich bastards that kill lions elephants giraffes rhinos etc. Those are all done legally, and not for culling the population but for profit and sport. It is a double edged sword but it does pay for wildlife conservation.

@Ryo1 certain species are put into reserves for many reasons including hunting. Hunters pay a premium to hunt big game along with payments for guides transportation etc. Without these reserves poachers aka poor natives would hunt the local wildlife to extinction leaving nothing left of said species except in captivity.

@Tejas @Redneckliberal
So Tejas, are you talking about trophy hunting? Are you suggesting that trophy hunting is actually contributing to wildlife conservation? Are you saying that lions elephants giraffes and rhinos would go extinct if they are not hunted? Rhinos are already disappearing. How is hunting them, i.e. killing them, saving them from extinction? I don't get it.

@tejas these are private "farms"..... They have what are called canned hunts... The rich city folks pay big bucks to hunt captive and in many cases drugged animals...

@Ryo1 look it up, I can't explain better for you

@ryo1 non of these "private" hunts are about conservation..... Only about money for a select few.....

@Redneckliberal it's not only just private land. It is nature preserves land owned by local government. Conservation is good for their economy, and what goes along with Conservation? Hunting

@tejas it isnt that simple... Hunting on national reserves is strictly limited to culling ... Permits are sold to those with the money and are given permission to "hunt" with reserve guides... The meat is given to the locals , monies are split between the reserve and local communities and only legal trophy "parts" are allowed to be taken by the permit holder...... Been there ... Photographed it and written stories about the process

@Redneckliberal I didn't say of that is wrong.

@tejas what is being done on the private farms is absolutely wrong

@Redneckliberal if it helps the poor locals eat idc. Humans are more important than animals in my opinion.

@tejas doesnt happen on the private farms that im aware of

@Tejas "certain places". Correct! There are hunting reserves outside of game reserves specific for hunting. We are however protective of our Big 5 species going extinct through poaching in South Africa. ie especially the African Elephant and the Black Rhino being poached for tusks and horn for Asian (China) medicinal and costume jewellery use.

@Theresa_N I agree with you 100%.

@Tejas @Redneckliberal @Ryo1
There are pros and cons to hunting in Africa, especially South Africa.

Here are two articles:

Trophy Hunting – A Complex Picture - Conservation Frontlines
[conservationfrontlines.org]

The following particular article:

"Our calculations also show that between 70% and 80% of trophy hunters’ spending takes place in the area of the hunt. This includes the accommodation, game hunted and in some cases also the trophy handling and processing."

Counting the contribution of hunting to South Africa's economy:

[theconversation.com]

My ex was a Trophy Hunter, hunted all over Africa. ...had 8 hunting rifles bought in the Congo. I was never a part or parcel to this. I thought it to be sadistic to put all those trophies in his man cave, the skins as carpets, and feel proud of it. I walked barefoot on one of those skins once and a shiver went down my spine.
Thankfully he's my exπŸ˜….

I do eat Kudu biltong though. It's delish 😊

@TimeOutForMe KUDU....THE BEST!!

@TimeOutForMe Interesting articles. I'm open to views that are different from mine (not necessarily agreeing with them). Thanks for this. πŸ™‚

Imagine what atrocities people who kill for enjoyment are capable of.

That's a symptom of sociopathy.

@LovinLarge
The killing of the fox imho for enjoyment or simply just to use your rifle is senseless. As someone mentioned above, they (foxes) take care of other pests.
